What is Massage Therapy?

MassageTherapy is a hands-on manipulation of the soft tissues including muscles, tendons, connective tissue and ligaments. It is one of the oldest forms of health care recognized globally. Not only is it an excellent treatment for specific physical ailments, but it is quite frequently the best method for the treatment of mental and physical stress resulting from the hectic pace of today’s world.

A Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) will assess a client’s condition, formula tea treatment plan and perform the required massage.

Client privacy is of utmost importance throughout a treatment. Patient's written and verbal consent will be taken. The client will be fully covered at all times with only the specific area of treatment being undraped at any given time.

It is of utmost importance that in order to achieve the best results from massage therapy, the client converse openly with the therapist regarding their specific needs and expected results.

When is Massage Recommended?

Massage therapy is recommended and is effective in treating the following:

  • Muscular rehabilitation
  • Improve joint mobility
  • Headaches (i.e. migraine, tension, sinus)
  • Back soreness due to trauma or stress
  • Pain from postural stress or from old chronic     injuries such as whiplash
  • Hip, leg, knee or foot pain
  • Strains, sprains, muscle spasms, dislocations     and fractures
  • Tendonitis (i.e. tennis or golfer’s elbow)
  • Athletic injuries
  • Repetitive strain injury (RSI)
  • Pregnancy both pre and post natal
  • Bursitis
  • Sciatica
  • Rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis
  • Fatigue
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Insomnia
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS)
  • Thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS)
  • Neuralgia and neuritis
  • Slow or poor lymph drainage
  • Circulatory disorders
  • Respiratory conditions
  • Temporom and ibular joint (TMJ) pain
  • Metabolic disorders (i.e. gout, thyroid     dysfunction)
  • Stroke/cerebral vascular accidents (CVA)

Who is a Registered Massage Therapist?

A Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) requires accreditation in a minimum of 2,200 hours of practical and theoretical studies in conjunction with a minimum 200 hours of hands-on supervised practical massage. An RMT is governed by the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario and regulated through the regulated Health and Professions Act.

Many employees extended health care plans allow for full or partial coverage of massage therapy by a Registered Massage Therapist. Be sure to check your benefits package for your specific coverage.
